The Center-to-Center of any drawer pull is the distance between the center of one screw hole to the center of the other. As a rule of thumb, the larger the drawer or cabinet, the larger the handle should be. Standard pull handles tend to range between 3 and 4 inches (96 to 128mm) in width, with smaller T-pulls often used for small cabinets and drawers. For any large door such as a pantry and any pull-out door (including pull-out base pantries or trash pull-outs), use a pull. One preference is to use knobs for all doors and pulls for all drawers. There are no strict rules to follow when choosing whether to select a knob or a pull or both. Should I use knobs or pulls on kitchen cabinets? Knobs and pulls can also be placed centered at the very top of the drawer panel, where the drawer rail begins. ![]() Just like on larger drawers, pulls should be placed horizontally. For small drawers (less than 24” wide) center the knobs or pulls in both directions. Pulls should be placed horizontally on drawers. Should cabinet pulls be vertical or horizontal? Any knob that is 1 ½ inches or larger is generally used on larger cabinets or if someone is really trying to make their hardware stand out and look more dramatic. Knobs that are 1 ¼” to 1 ⅜” are standard for most applications. Truss head design has a flatter profile than a regular round head screw. Standard #8-32 threading is common for the majority of cabinet knobs and pulls. This is the measurement required when selecting replacement pulls. Measure from the center of the screw hole in one threaded post over to the center of the other screw hole with a tape measure. ![]() Place the drawer pull on a work surface with the threaded posts facing up. Cabinet doors 24-36 inches tall are best adorned with pulls 7-12 inches long, while cabinets taller than 36 inches such as pantries, built-in appliances and pullouts should be accompanied by pulls longer than 12 inches. Pulls 3-7 inches in length will sit the most comfortably on doors less than 24 inches tall. Standard-sized drawers can use any of the following pull sizes: 3” (one or two), 4” (one or two), 96mm, and 128mm.
